Sunmark Commences Third Annual Summer of Kindness with KIPP Schools

6/7/23

The Sunmark Charitable Community Foundation’s annual Summer of Kindness officially returned on Tuesday, May 23. Kindness Crew volunteers, comprised of Sunmark Credit Union staff and Sunmark Foundation members, joined KIPP Capital Region Public Schools at Krank Park in Albany as they celebrated their School Spirit week.

Fourth grade students from three KIPP schools (Albany Community Charter, Troy Prep, and Tech Valley) previously participated in Sunmark Kindness Workshops earlier this year where they learned what it means to be kind and brainstormed ideas on how to spread kindness in their communities.

According to Audrey Stone, Sunmark Foundation VP, there was one specific theme that continued to emerge throughout the workshops. “The kids were so thoughtful and creative – they had some really great thoughts on how to spread kindness, but the majority of them wanted to find ways to keep their communities and parks clean.”

During Tuesday’s School Spirit week Picnic Day, the students were able to bring their Kindness Project to life by decorating recycling bins with their handprints and messages of kindness. The bins will be used throughout their schools and donated to area non-profit organizations. Children were also able to create cards for pediatric patients at the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital, and color on the Sunmark Good Vibes banner.

This commenced the first Kindness Project of the 2023 Summer of Kindness season, which will run through the end of August. Sunmark Kindness Crews will work throughout the summer months to facilitate various Kindness Projects with local organizations.
